Springbok Women determined to topple mighty Canada
Springbok Women captain Nolusindiso Booi said her team will enter Loftus Versfeld with excitement and determination when they face Canada at 13:30 on Saturday.
Last week, Sekgodiso broke the 800m course record at the Ostrava Golden Spike with a time of 1:57.16 to win her heat, and will again be in action at a Diamond League event in Eugene, USA, on July 5, but Sepeng is still stranded back at home.
Speaking to SABC Sport, he explained that without financial support for flights, accommodation and food, he is unable to join Sekgodiso in camp abroad.
"From our side, when we talk about support, we mainly refer to the costs involved in attending training camps, such as flight tickets, food, and accommodation," said Sepeng.
"There’s a lot to consider because traveling means being away from family and managing many expenses. Any support we receive is greatly appreciated, but it also requires ongoing resources to maintain.
"To be honest, the financial support we need includes covering the coach’s flight, as well as food and accommodation costs for the camp.
"The weather in South Africa is cold, which sometimes forces us to stay in Stockholm alone after the event in Ostrava, instead of returning home immediately.
"What we aim to do is maintain the training program effectively by reviewing sessions and adjusting as needed, but for this to happen smoothly, financial assistance is essential."
The 2018 SA Coach of the Year says he relies on remote coaching via phone calls with the World Indoor 800m champion while she is competing abroad, with another challenge being different time zones.
"We’re managing things through phone calls for now, which is helping. I can speak to her the day before the competition, in the morning, and even around lunchtime to remind her to eat," he added.
"We've also coordinated her departure times for the event, but honestly, being there with Prudence in person would make things a lot easier for both of us."
