Telkom is expecting a massive increase in earnings, with the group benefiting from the sale of its tower business, Swiftnet.
Telkom recently completed the sale of its telecom tower business, Swiftnet, for R6.75 billion to a consortium led by global infrastructure investor Actis.
In a trading statement, the group expects its total basic earnings per share to increase by 290% to 300% to between 1,503.5 and 1,542.0 per share.
Headline earnings per share are also expected to increase between 40% and 50%, reaching between 526.4 and 564.0 cents per share.
The difference between basic and headline earnings per share on total operations is largely due to an estimated R4,347 million after tax profit made on the disposal of Switnet, which was not included as part of discontinued earnings.
When looking at just continuing operations, the group still expects its basic earnings per share to rise by between 85% and 95% to anywhere between 550.9 and 580.7 cents per share.
The group’s headline earnings per share from continuing operations are also expected to increase by between 55% and 65% to between 446.6 and 475.4 cents per share.
The difference between basic and headline earnings for continuing operations relates to a net adjustment of R483 million due to a profit on the sale of PPE and intangible assets.
These offset net write-offs of property, plant & equipment and intangible assets amounting to R257 million.
The group’s annual results for the 2025 financial year will be released on or about 10 June 2025. The expected earnings can be seen below:
