Foreigners spent over R1 billion to live in one South African city
International buyers have spent over R1 billion buying properties across the Western Cape’s City of Cape Town.
City parted company with Simo Dladla last week despite guiding the club back to the Betway Premiership and has since joined crosstown rivals AmaZulu as the new assistant to Arthur Zwane.
With City looking for options, four-times league winner Hunt became their top priority given that he was unattached following his SuperSport United exit before the end of the previous campaign.
It’s understood the move was also endorsed by City’s incoming technical director Ernst Middendorp with the two said to have held early discussions about the plans for the club in the coming weeks.
City are then expected to announce Hunt next week when the contract is officially signed, but for now the deal is agreed in principle.
The public broadcaster has also established that Hunt will have former Kaizer Chiefs shot stopper Rowen Fernandez as the goalkeeper coach while talks are ongoing with Kaitano Tembo to be his assistant coach.
Tembo was recently demoted by Sekhukhune United from being part of the senior team’s technical bench to working with the reserve league after they sacked Lehlohonolo Seema and replaced him with Eric Tinkler.
Hunt has won four titles – three with SuperSport United and one with Bidvest Wits but now enters unchartered territory by rebuilding City into a force.
The new league season is expected to get underway on 8 August, but the official fixtures are not out just yet.
