Spar Proteas head coach Jenny van Dyk says she supports World Netball’s new strategic plan concerning major events.
This comes after the world governing body announced that the World Cup will be held every two years, and that they will also be launching the Men’s Netball World Cup.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Van Dyk says this is a step closer to netball becoming an official Olympic sport.
"Firstly, I think it's a great decision by World Netball to include the males, because the men also deserve a World Cup to look forward to," said the experienced coach.
Van Dyk says she welcomes the fact players will now get enough time to participate in competitive netball, but also raised concerns regarding lower-ranked teams, stating that they will need support when it comes to travelling costs.
"I do admire this recent strategic shift, but one thing I am concerned about is funding for lower ranked teams. Hopefully governments and federations can get on board to make this two-year cycle very successful," said van Dyk.
The 42-year-old mentor believes South Africa needs coaching clinics to help equip coaches with the correct skills to impact players and to make sure that they remain ready for bigger platforms.
