Amogelang Motau: Game plan against the Black Queens is coming together

Banyana Banyana captain Amogelang Motau says their plan to break past Ghana in their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations opener is coming together.

The two nations will face off on Monday at Honneur Stadium, to kick off their Group C contest.

Speaking during a training session in Casablanca, Motau says they have done their assessment on the opponents and believe they are ready to resume with their WAFCON title defense.

“Again the focus is mainly on us preparing for Ghana. We have been given analysis of how they will come at us. We know that they are a very physical team, but again they are ball players just like us. So we are trying to find ways on how we can break them down and again we have been at training working on those things and they are coming together,’’ said Motau.

Banyana arrived in Morocco last Wednesday to help fine tune their preparations, with the tournament commencing in just two days.

Motau says arriving a week before the continental showpiece starts has been key to help the team acclimatise to the hot conditions.

“Even today the session had to be cut short because of the weather. But I think again we now acclimatising to the hot conditions and we are getting there,’’ added Motau.

Motau adds to share a message to teammates, stating that they will have to rise above challenges and play for the badge - so they can surpass all other 11 African teams for the coveted trophy.

“I think the lesson for us is that if we put the badge first and remember the people on ground who support us. That is what pushes us as a team. We are just taking lessons from the previous experiences, and just want to do it for the badge and for the people,’’ she expressed.
