Afropop rising star Ishingalezintombi is on a mission to use her voice to entertain, uplift and inspire
The 24-year-old singer, whose real name is Simbongile Shezi, hails from Zingolweni in Thuvukezi, Port Shepstone. She spoke to TshisaLIVE about her journey, her music and her dreams beyond the stage.
“I was so happy to work with an artist as big as her,” she said of a recent collaboration with an artist she didn't name. “She accepted my collabo with a warm heart, and that meant so much to me.”
Her latest song draws from a deeply personal and relatable message.
“What motivated me is that sometimes we stay in relationships that are unhealthy and it’s hard to leave,” she explained. “In this song, I’m giving courage to anyone who’s in that situation to find the strength to walk away when things are no longer fixable.”
Her love for music started early, thanks to a teacher who recognised her gift.
“The person who inspired me was my grade 3 teacher Mr Ngwazi. That’s when I knew this was my calling.”
Looking to the future, Ishingalezintombi has her sights set on working with some of Mzansi’s most respected artists. She hopes to collaborate with Naima Kay, Zakwethu, Mjabulisi, Cici, Mfezemnyama, Mawelele, Mthandeni SK and Mnqobi Yazoo, who she says inspire her.
Ishingalezintombi also dreams of becoming an actress and motivational speaker.
“I like healing people,” she said. “Whether it’s through music, acting or speaking, I want to make a difference in someone’s life.”
