Takealot expands its one-hour delivery service in South Africa

TakealotNOW is expanding to more suburbs in Gauteng, with the Naspers-owned retailer now offering the one-hour delivery service to the East Rand.

Launched in July 2023, TakealotNOWstarted as a pilot project in Cape Town’s northern suburbs, offering a range of deliveries within minutes via the Mr D app.

The service has since been expanded to the greater Cape Town region, Johannesburg, and Pretoria, and plans are to continue expanding to more areas as demand increases.

The service operates daily from 08h00 to 20h00 and offers a wide assortment of everyday essentials and premium products beyond just simple groceries.

The product selections are curated based on purchase behaviour across suburbs, and offers shoppers goods such as tech, DIY tools, books, beauty essentials, pet food and more.

“We understand our customer needs when it comes to speed of delivery and convenience,” said Karla Levick, Chief Marketing Officer at Takealot.

The expansion means South Africans can now get their favourite essentials, gadgets and gifts delivered to their door in these areas:

  • Kempton Park
  • Bedfordview
  • Edenvale
  • Kensington
  • Houghton Estate
  • Modderfontein
  • Orange Grove

The recent launch of TakealotMORE—the group’s R99 monthly subscription service—gives members unlimited free TakealotNOW deliveries and exclusive coupons.

Other suburbs in South Africa where customers can use TakealotMORE include:

  • Pretoria: Hatfield, Brooklyn, Menlo Park, Waterkloof, Pretoria Central, Sunnyside, Menlyn, Lynwood, Faerie Glen, Moreleta Park, Garsfontein, Waverley and Silver Lakes.
