South Africa Men's goal shooter Lutendo Maiwashe says he is focused on getting his mind and body in shape ahead of the 2025 Male Netball Championship.
Maishe will be representing the Johannesburg Netball Association, with the tournament taking place in Durban from 1 September.
Speaking SABC Sport, Maiwashe says he looks forward to making his mark at the biggest male championship in South Africa.
“At the moment, I am trying to get physically and mentally ready for the biggest tournament in the country.
“As male netball players, these opportunities mean a lot to us, since our calendar is not as stretched as the women’s game.
“I now want to get my body in shape, so that when the tournament starts, I can hit the ground running,’’ said Maiwashe.
World Netball confirmed in June that the women’s World Cup will be held
every two years, and that they will also be launching the Men’s Netball World Cup after 2027.
Maiwashe says this is an opportunity every netball player has been waiting for.
“The introduction of the Male Netball World Cup has been something we have been waiting for.
“As you know we have been playing the Africa Cup and have won the championship back to back, now it is high time to compete amongst the best in the world,’’ added Maiwashe.
After a stellar performance to help South Africa retain the Africa Cup championship last year, Maiwashe believes he is prepared to compete in the World Cup and hopes to claim the goal shooter of the tournament accolade.
“I think as a goal shooter, it would be great to compete at the World Cup.
“I think I have done well for my country, and now it is time to show the world what I am capable of.”
