Sweden boss defends Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres against 'ignorant' critics
Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has hit back at those who have been critical of Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres' recent form.
The celebrations, which marked Liverpool's 20th top-flight title - bringing them level with the record for most English championships - were intended to continue with internal gatherings among players and staff.
However, tragedy struck during the parade when a car drove into a crowd on Water Street in central Liverpool. Emergency services reported that 47 people were injured in the incident. Of those, 27 were taken to hospital, with two individuals - including a child - suffering serious injuries.
Merseyside Police confirmed that a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area has been arrested in connection with the event. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
The club, under new head coach Arne Slot in his first season, had scheduled private celebratory events for Tuesday to honour the team's achievement.
However, staff were informed on Monday evening that these events had been cancelled out of respect and concern for those affected.
A spokesperson for Liverpool FC expressed sympathy for the victims and their families, stating that the club's thoughts are with everyone impacted by the shocking events.
While the triumph marks a significant milestone in Liverpool's storied history, the celebrations have been understandably overshadowed by the tragedy.
