More wealthy South Africans are buying homes in Namibia, ranked as one of the safest countries in Africa, for tax benefits and permanent residency.
Wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane is grateful for another national recognition after being listed as one of the nominees for the 2025 SA Sports Awards.
Montjane is nominated in the Sportswomen of Year with a Disability category alongside Minke Janse van Rensburg and Simone Kruger.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Montjane says such accolades remain a motivation for athletes to work harder.
“I’m really grateful for the recognition because I know it takes hard work to get the results, so I’m just grateful for the nomination. These awards serve as motivation to athletes and also it encourages the upcoming athletes to work even harder,’’said Kgothatso Montjane.
Montjane enjoyed a successful 2024/25 season - she won the Madrid Open in May, followed by securing the semifinals in singles and doubles at the Wimbledon Open. And subsequently built a sports facility for a special school in Limpopo through her foundation - she reacts on her latest success.
“A lot happened in the last year, I’m still so clouded by lot of emotion but I’m seeing progress in my world ranking being back in the top 5 and that really I’m improving and I think there is two grand slams to 2024/2025 season of not mistaken and that also it’s progress. So, after all it looks positive and motivating for me to keep grinding and improving,’’ added Montjane.
The 39-year-old is currently in training ahead of the upcoming US Open, stating that she will be using the platform to chase her biggest ambition which is to win a Singles grand slam.
“I just want to push further at the US Open, as you know this is the last leg of the year. I want to finish off on a high and win a singles grand slam”, she expressed.
