South African road running star Kabelo Mulaudzi is aiming for a third consecutive victory at the sold-out Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10km on Sunday.
The 28-year-old, affectionately known as “Mr Podium”, has been on form in the prestigious series after winning in Cape Town (27:49) in May and Durban (27:41) in July.
A win in Tshwane would cement his dominance and place him in the record books, while even a podium finish would mark his seventh top three finish in a row.
The Alexandra-based athlete says he is in the best shape of his career and relishes the challenge of maintaining his winning streak.
“I used the CGA 4km as part of my preparations for Tshwane, and I can feel that I’m ready,” he told SABC Sport.
“If I can win a third race in a row, I will be over the moon. I’m healthy, injury-free, and in good condition to compete.”
Mulaudzi, who trains with his close friend and former national 10km and 10 000m champion, Andries Sesedi, insists that the expectation surrounding him only fuels his motivation.
The Boxer Running Club athlete will also be out to reclaim the Tshwane crown, last won by Lesotho’s Kamohelo Mofolo in 2024.
Mulaudzi and Mofolo have traded first and second place finishes in Cape Town and Durban, setting the stage for another thrilling showdown between the two gifted runners this weekend.
Cheered on by fans who chant “Kabza” on race days, Mulaudzi says the love from the crowd drives him forward.
“It’s not pressure for me because I see it as love. The people support me, and that motivates me to push even harder. I run for them,” he added.
