Springbok Women determined to topple mighty Canada
Springbok Women captain Nolusindiso Booi said her team will enter Loftus Versfeld with excitement and determination when they face Canada at 13:30 on Saturday.
Proteas Women head coach Mandla Mashimbyi has made light of the batting inconsistencies his team has displayed in recent times, dismissing it as just a part of the game.
Apart from bright sparks here and there from Tazmin Brits, captain Laura Wolvaardt, and Sune Luus, SA could not score runs regularly in their recently-concluded Caribbean tour.
Mashimbyi has insisted the loss of form for certain players is just an opportunity for other players to raise their hand.
"It's cricket, you know. Some people will fail, some people will do well. But the lovely thing about this team now is that we do know we have a bit of depth from a batting point of view," said Mashimbyi,
"And players down the batting order have actually come and put us in good positions, so if they fail then that's it, the other ones need to work, and it means other people need to score the runs.
"But otherwise the nice thing about this team now is the fact that you can't just rely on one or two people, a lot of players are putting their hands up, but today it wasn't to be, I guess."
Mashimbyi did, however, admit they did not put up enough runs on the board in the last two T20s against the West Indies, having tallied under 150 in both games batting first and subsequently losing the series 2-1.
"We just didn't score enough runs, we didn't adapt well to the conditions. We came with a lot of confidence from the [first] game, but I think the conditions played a big role, we just didn't adapt well enough to make sure we get ourselves to a competitive score," he added.
"And I think there's a lot of learning from a batting point of view, in terms of adjusting your targets and your scores based on the conditions."
