SABC Sport can reveal that defender Thabo Moloisane will be available as a free agent effective July 1 next year.
The player’s agent has now confirmed to the public broadcaster that the upcoming 2025/26 season will be the final one for Moloisane at Stellenbosch FC, a club the centre back joined almost exactly two years ago after Maritzburg United were relegated to the National First Division.
Moloisane made an impressive 46 appearances for Stellies across all competitions as the club finished third in the Betway Premiership and got to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Along with Isamel Toure in central defense, Moloisane was part of the spine at the club and his imminent exit will be a big loss.
“Yes, this is our last dance so to speak. Thabo has had an incredible stint at Stellenbosch FC and enjoyed quite a number of milestones with the club, including being called up to Bafana Bafana,” explained agent Karabo Tshabuse.
“With that in mind, there were discussions for a contract extension, which was tabled for him to continue playing there beyond just next season. But we could not find each other – so this will be Thabo’s final year at the club.”
This then means Moloisane is in a position to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice in January 2026, only joining them in July that year, however.
Stellies will be hoping to pair the experienced player with a new centre back when the new campaign kicks off next month with the MTN8 after selling Toure to UAE Pro League outfit Baniyas.
The side led by coach Steve Barker begin their campaign with a quarterfinal cup tie against AmaZulu in the first week of August.
