Sweden boss defends Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres against 'ignorant' critics
Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has hit back at those who have been critical of Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres' recent form.
World number two Coco Gauff breezed her way into the French Open quarterfinals after a 6-0 7-5 victory against 20th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
The 21-year-old American was particularly ruthless in the opening stages with the first set only lasting 29 minutes where she dropped just five points across the first five games.
Alexandrova couldn't muster the high-powered consistency she showed during the first week of the tournament for long enough in the second even though she put up more of a fight.
Gauff, who is a finalist at Roland Garros from 2022 and a semifinalist last year, cantered to her fourth straight-sets win at the Grand Slam.
She came into the major in good form on clay, having made the final of the Madrid Open and the Italian Open in Rome, losing to the world number one Aryna Sabalenka in Spain and home favourite Jasmine Paolini respectively.
Gauff will now face the winner of the match between fellow Americans Madison Keys and Hailey Baptiste, one a Grand Slam champion and veteran and the other making her first appearance in the second week of a Grand Slam.
