One of South Africa’s top wingers, Chuene Morifi is happy to seal a one-year deal with Turkish Women’s Super League champions ABB Fomget.
The 34-year-old has enjoyed a 10-month stay in Turkey playing for Beylerbeyi SK.
In an exclusive interview with SABC Sport, Morifi says she is settling in well into her new environment and looks forward to contributing positively at Fomget.
"ABB Fomget is a huge club, they are the champions of Turkey, and they happen to be a club with a lot of history, which drew me in to join their project," said the rapid winger.
Morifi spent eight years at Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies before moving to Beylerbeyi Sk last season. She reflects on experiencing a European team for the first time.
"I played for Mamelodi Sundowns for eight years, so it took some time for me to adjust to Turkish football, but I feel that I have settled in really well," said the former Masandawana member.
She further explains how playing in the Turkish Women’s League has impacted her professional career.
"The Turkish league is a completely different challenge, understanding and speaking the language is also tricky.
"The way they do things, and the way the league is run, is completely the opposite of how things work in South Africa."
Morifi also shared a special message to Banyana Banyana, who will begin their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title defence against Ghana tomorrow at Honneur Stadium in Oujda.
"I have no doubt that the ladies will give their all in Morocco. The team did encounter some challenges, but like every great team does, they can find a way to defend their WAFCON title."
