Kinshasa, July 15 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Panel of Facilitators of the African Mediation for Peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are conducting a visit to assess progress in the process, the office of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa reported today.
The Congolese head of government met the day before with the delegation, led by former presidents of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde, and of the Central African Republic, Catherine Samba Panza, with whom she discussed the prospects for actions to end the conflict in the east of the country.
"As part of the mission entrusted to us by the African Union, it was important to meet with the authorities to learn their perspectives on the ongoing and ongoing peace processes, and then to meet with the key players in the Congolese crisis," said Samba Panza.
He added that they will also hold meetings with the population to jointly explore possible measures to consolidate the various peace agreements and initiatives.
The panel members highlighted the importance of the peace agreement signed with Rwanda on June 27 in Washington, D.C., which they considered an important step that laid the groundwork for progress toward resolving the crisis in eastern DRC.
"We want the population to assimilate it, embrace it, and know that it represents a gateway to peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo," the former president of the Central African Republic emphasized.
He added that they are confident in the results of the talks taking place in Doha, mediated by Qatar, between the DRC government and the rebels of the Congo River Alliance-March 23 Movement (AFC/M23).
