Woolworths has opened the doors to its first-ever standalone Beauty store at Waterstone Village, Somerset West. This brand-new store introduces a curated beauty shopping experience, complete with a wide range of products and is home to luxury skin and nail services.
The sophisticated ambiance reflects Woolworths’ commitment to detail and innovation. The launch of this standalone beauty store marks a strategic move for Woolworths. “Our new Beauty store reinforces our ambition to be the leading beauty destination in South Africa,” says Julie Maggs, General Manager for Beauty at Woolworths.
The new Woolworths Beauty store is the first of its kind and offers customers a distinctive beauty experience. From a design perspective, shoppers can look forward to modern, tech-inspired elements with the brand’s well-known, elegant aesthetic that is bound to exceed customers’ expectations. Each aspect of the store has been carefully considered to provide a first-class experience, from the innovative beauty services to services by Amazi further enrich the store’s curated offerings, establishing it as a comprehensive beauty destination.
Beyond shopping, the Woolworths Beauty store is designed as a lifestyle destination. Customers are invited to enjoy coffee or bubbly while they shop or indulge in skin and nail services. The store also boasts the first skin analysis machine, providing detailed insights into individual skincare needs and helping customers select the perfect products. Regular beauty services, including makeup, skincare, and fragrance consultations, are on offer, and for those purchasing gifts, complimentary gift wrapping is offered. If a desired product is not in stock, the Woolworths Beauty staff will gladly order it from another store for convenient, in-store collection.
Our editor attended the official opening of the store, and fell in love with everything it had to offer:
“I had pretty high expectations when I heard about the opening of the first Woolworths Beauty store at Waterstone Village, but my expectations were totally exceeded. My first impression was that the store had a European feel – and it reminded me of visiting beauty stores like Sephora and Douglas – but with a unique African flair.
Visually, it’s a real treat, with each and every design element carefully curated to create a serene space where you can escape the hustle and bustle for a tranquil shopping experience. I love how they deviated from the classic Woolworths black-and-white branding, and instead opted for pale greens, whites and greys.
The store has such a wide variety of brands, from international favourites, to local heroes, and the array of makeup, skincare, fragrance and body care is astounding. Plus, I love that you can go for threading, have your nails done and even undergo non-invasive facial treatments.
I was also really impressed by the massive variety of W Beauty products on offer, including a fragrance wall featuring all of the new W Beauty Eau de Parfums – a luxury line of fragrances inspired by iconic international scents.
I got to speak to Julie Maggs, the General Manager at Woolworths, and she expressed just how important this new store was in order to grow Woolworths’s beauty footstep, and to cement the retailer as a leader in the local beauty industry. She also hinted that there’s plenty more surprises to come, and that this is just the first step in a long line of projects and innovations in the pipeline.
Sometimes, going to a beauty store or counter can be quite daunting. I’ve had countless readers tell me that they feel intimidated by sales assistants and don’t feel like they belong when they walk into a high-end beauty store. I have experienced this myself, even as a beauty editor. But I felt the opposite at Woolworths Beauty.
The staff are so friendly, positive and down to earth and the store has such a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere. I felt like I could browse for ages! Julie told me that this was a very important consideration when they planned the store, as they wanted anyone and everyone to feel welcome and they want customers to feel comfortable in the space.
I spent an afternoon at the store and I could not stop browsing and testing products. It was a beautiful experience from start to finish and I highly recommend that everyone who is able to visit this location, pops into the store. You will not be disappointed!” Anien – Editor
